Born in Burnley, Lancashire, John Cowell tells the story of his life with a mixture of sadness, love and a wry humour. He is one of six children who lived in abject poverty during the war years and on into the changing times of the 'Forties' and 'Fifties'. Their home was a small dark dank terraced house set amongst countless tall factory chimneys. Chimneys constantly billowed out thick dark smoke which hung over the town like a shroud.

Curt Koenders is a retired physics professor, who has worked and is still active in the field of classical theoretical physics. He has had no theological training whatsoever. He does not make much of the Christian denominations, but admits to a background in various Baptist churches. He prefers to read the biblical stories on their own terms, rather than subscribe to Systematic Theology. He lives in England with his wife Andrea.

Born and brought up in Paisley, Scotland the author has worked in casinos around the world for the whole of his adult life - and is still working in the business in Egypt. James is married to Helen and has two sons, Stuart who is 27 and Struan who is 23. Struan is based in London. He also has a grandson TJ who is 4 years old. Helen, Stuart and TJ reside in Scotland.

Penny retired from a career in HR in 2007 but still finds herself wondering when she will really retire. She enjoys her role as a JP and a church secretary as well as singing with the church band and taking an active part in her local University of the Third Age. As a change from writing poetry she is part of a creative writing group and runs a U3A "Enjoying Shakespeare" group. She and her husband still find time to pack in as much travel as they can, especially loving the excitement of being on safari. Having four grandchildren ranging from 1 to 20 means that there is never a dull moment.

Dr. Machin-Taylor was educated at Reading, Lancashire and Oxford. Then worked for the Ministry of Aviation as a research chemist before leaving to set up a department gathering and collating technical intelligence. The next 30 years were spent in senior management, working in Paris, the USA as well as in the UK. Extensive travels in the Middle East and Central Asia resulted in the award of Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Dr.Taylor is a member of St. Cross College Oxford and a member of the Oxford and Cambridge Club in London.
